Janitorial supplies / BUYING GUIDE

Janitorial supplies: match the product to the surface, dispenser and bin.

Cleaning supplies cover very different jobs, from lining a waste bin to washing a floor. Start with the task and the equipment already in use. A roll that does not fit the dispenser or a cleaner unsuitable for the surface is wasted money, however attractive the pack price.

THE BUYING DECISION

Confirm fit, intended use and product instructions before comparing quantities. Keep chemical choice separate from paper, cloth and bin-liner purchases.

Measure dispensers and bins before ordering

For toilet tissue and hand towels, check the dispenser’s accepted format and dimensions before choosing a pack. Fold type, roll dimensions and core can matter as much as the total count. For bin liners, note the bin dimensions and the kind of everyday waste involved rather than relying only on a capacity label. These are shopping checks, not a guarantee of suitability. A trial pack can be useful before committing to a large carton.

Select cleaners for the actual task

Read the exact product label for intended use, suitable surfaces and directions. HSE identifies skin, respiratory and eye hazards from some cleaning substances and recommends preventing exposure using appropriate controls. Its guidance is written for work settings, but makes clear why the product’s instructions matter. This buying guide does not provide dilution recipes or substitute for workplace assessment. Follow the product directions and keep different cleaning chemicals separate; do not mix cleaning products.

Keep equipment compatibility in the comparison

A mop refill needs to match its handle or frame, while a soap refill needs the right dispensing arrangement. Check the manufacturer’s reference where there is an existing system. A similar photograph is not enough to establish fit. For reusable cloths, check laundering and surface instructions and choose a way to keep different cleaning tasks organised. Avoid buying several near-identical refills without confirming that they belong to the same system.

Price the useful contents, not the outer pack

Compare paper by compatible sheets or usable length, liners by suitable bag count and soap by the quantity of the correct product. Cleaner concentrates and ready-to-use products are not equivalent litres; any comparison must follow the exact product’s stated directions. Keep supplies identified and store them according to their instructions. Reorder based on actual use and available space. If a listing leaves the size, format or contents unclear, resolve it with the seller before buying.
